“It was not a pleasant thing to write a book like this. We sincerely hope it would not be a pleasant thing to read a book like this. Because the book tells about the unpleasant reality we live in. The one who enjoys the unpleasant reality cannot be in his right mind. We sincerely hope you are in your right mind. We do not apologize for the unpleasant sensations: the aim of this dictionary is not to make you fall asleep in cozy pleasure.”

That is how the authors introduce the innocent reader into depths of the Dictionary, and into depths of the unpleasant reality on the Balkans. The book tries to awaken the young people to think wiser and braver than adults. Sometimes thinking is more difficult than killing, so we have to learn how to live without aggression and fear.
This Dictionary is not a manual or a guide for the world outside. It collects the hot problems of the Balkan people and hopes to give clear answers.

This Dictionary already has its history. In 1995, historians, ethnologists, anthropologists, researchers in Balkan studies, teachers and representatives of ethnic minorities, political leaders and journalists discussed the Dictionary. There were many different reactions to it: criticism and praise, and thanks to them, the second edition is much better.

The Dictionary is illustrated by professional artists and by students from High School of Fine Arts, Sofia.
