Anti-corruption Pressure Group II (2002-2003) The project goal was to further use and instrumentalize the experience achieved by the Pressure Group, established in May 2001, in stabilizing an effective structure engaging public opinion and exerting pressure on the executive. The Group activities gained momentum using the already established procedures of identifying a limited range of publicly significant and topical problem spheres of corruption in Bulgaria and sending them, through formal notification, to the competent state institutions. The difference lied within the scope of the monitoring: in addition to the mainstream media, the monitoring also covers local media. The idea of monitoring the local media was to be considered as a step towards “zero-tolerance” strategy in combating corruption, i.e. including practices of “local importance”. More information about the concrete results of the Group’s activities can be found in the menu “Anti-corruption Pressure Group”. Ŕ final report, summing up the results of the Group’s activities and providing options and framework for future anti-corruption efforts, was produced and distributed among the media, NGOs, decision-makers, and state institutions. |
