This volume is published as part of the project A Civic Network for Cultural Pluralism and Multicultural Integration in Southeastern Europe implemented in 1997-1999. The International Peace Information Service (Antwerp, Belgium), the Research Centre for Interethnic Relations in Transilvania (Cluj, Romania), the Society of Europeanists (Bucharest, Romania) and the ACCESS Association (Sofia, Bulgaria) were partners in the project.

This book is a collection of studies conducted by a team of Romanian and a team of Bulgarian scholars. Their main aim is to help improve communication and cooperation between Southeast European NGOs and research centers promoting intercultural tolerance and dialogue, cultural pluralism and multicultural integration. The core problem is how to improve and harmonize relations between ethnic and religious communities in the Bulgarian conditions.
