Dictionary of the Ethnopolitical Terms

The impetus for developing this project was the great interest provoked by the concise ethnopolitical dictionary Us-Them (1995), which was published within the Together Intercultural Project, carried out by ACCESS in the period 1994-1995.

The project aimed at translating the second revised edition of the Dictionary (1997) in Turkish and Roma. The project envisaged that the editions in Roma and Turkish should call for tolerance by means of strong argumentation.

The project idea was realized at the end of 2002 and BIZ – ONLAR Küçük etnopolitik sözlük (Us-Themin Turkish) and AME-OL Cikno etnopolitikano alavari (Us-Them in Roma) were published. The editions in Roma and Turkish are meant to facilitate breaking the psychological barriers and bridging the gap in communication between the ethnic majority and the minorities in Bulgaria. Their distribution is considered to be a new opportunity to contribute to the integration of these minorities into public life.

Within the project, audiocassettes were also produced with the recorded contents of the Dictionary. They also include popular melodies of the different ethnic minorities in Bulgaria.
