Balkan Neighbours Newsletter is a unique attempt to provide periodically a comprehensive view on the ethnic stereotypes and prejudices perpetuated by Balkan media.

Balkan Neighbours Newsletter runs six-month press reviews on “the image of the neighbour” and the image of the minorities in the Balkans. The six-month press reviews are prepared on the basis of monthly reports that are the first-level direct outcome of the daily monitoring of the mainstream press in seven Balkan countries – Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Turkey and Yugoslavia.

The Newsletter presents the way in which the media shape “the image of the neighbour” by resorting to traditional notions, national stereotypes and prevalent prejudices. It focuses on the main tendencies and offers possible explanations and analyses of the media presentation of “the other”. The reports also include quotations in the vivid language of political journalism. Analysing and generalizing accumulated prejudices in the “distorting mirror” of national confrontation, so far the Newsletter has been of considerable interest to a broad readership.

The Newsletter presents over 15 authors from seven Balkan countries working in the fields of social and political science, economy, media, minority issues, education.
